Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing

Who we are

Since its start in 1996, HIGN has been the geriatric arm of NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing. Over the years, we have been a beacon for all those who wish to advance geriatric care through nursing leadership and interprofessional team care.

We are a major thought leader in the advancement of research, practice, and policy across the healthcare continuum for older adults. Driven by innovation and research, we aim to revolutionize the ways in which older people age, navigate the healthcare system and receive person-centered care. Through evidence-based education, we prepare thousands of nurses and other members of the healthcare team to deliver age-friendly care, and inform federal, state and local policymakers to ensure safe and equitable healthcare for older adults.

Mission

Transforming the lives of older people with innovative approaches to healthy aging through research, practice, and policy.

Vision

As a global leader, we envision a world that provides equitable access to healthcare and supports communities that value older adults. We believe that all people should have preventative care and specialized treatments, strong community networks, accessible housing and the support to live independently or in long-term care with dignity and respect.
