HIGN Scholars Program
Apply today for a highly selective honors program and learn from leaders in
geriatric nursing about all the exciting ways you can serve older adults as a
nurse!
The Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing (HIGN) Scholars Program seeks
to engage and develop baccalaureate students interested in specializing in
the care of the older adult. This program offers a unique experience not
found anywhere else in the United States for students to explore the
greatest pressing issues in geriatric nursing practice across care settings.
Students accepted to this exclusive cohort receive small-group instruction,
clinical experience and mentorship in geriatrics and palliative care. Learn
about how to improve care and health equity for older adults through
practice, policy, and research and how you as a nurse can be a leader in
the field.
Students accepted into this program with an interest in community-based or
long-term care nursing have the additional opportunity to applying for the J.
Paul Trust Scholarship.
Program Includes:
- Small Group Workshops with Interprofessional Faculty
- Mentorship from NYU Geriatrics Faculty
- Geriatric Focused Clinical Experiences
- 2-week Immersion opportunity with MJHS
- Integrative Mentored Clinical Review Project
- Counts for 1 Baccalaureate Program Nursing Elective
- Access to HIGN Online E-Learning Modules
- Recognition at Graduation Ceremony as an HIGN Scholar

Eligibility Criteria:
- Students in good standing and have a minimum GPA of 3.0
- Traditional baccalaureate and accelerated students currently in the second nursing sequence are eligible for the Fall 2024 cohort
Scholarship Opportunity:
Students accepted into this program with an interest in community-based or long-term care nursing have the additional opportunity to apply for the J Paul Trust Scholarship, which awards $12,500 over two semesters. One student per cohort will be awarded.
