To maintain or improve resident mealtime behaviors, function, and nutrition, and provide a quality mealtime experience that fosters dignity and maximum independence while respecting personal preferences and addressing personal needs for as long as possible.

To maximize physical functioning, ensure safety, and prevent or minimize decline in ADL function, and plan for transitions of care.

Assessing Cognitive Function

The goals of cognitive assessment include the following:

A. To determine an individual’s cognitive abilities

B. To recognize early and diagnose the presence of cognitive impairment

C. To monitor an individual’s cognitive response to various treatments
