Senator Rivera to Speak at Bronx Health Corps Launch Event, Dec. 8th
December 6, 2016

New York University Rory Meyers College of Nursing’s Tara Cortes, PhD, RN, FAAN, professor of geriatric nursing and executive director of the Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing is hosting a recognition dinner acknowledging the completion of the initial Bronx Health Corps (BHC) volunteer training, and the beginning of the important work that they will be doing in the community.

The BHC’s specially-trained community volunteers have been educated on the topics of healthy diet and exercise, stress, older adult sexuality, living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, as well as management of diabetes, heart failure, and asthma.

"We are very excited about launching the Bronx Health Corp to teach older adults living in the community about wellness behaviors and management of their chronic disease,” said Dr. Cortes. “This is an opportunity to create ambassadors who will improve the health of diverse communities in the Bronx."
