GWEP Celebratory breakfast held at Montefiore Medical Group Bronx East Patient Centered Medical Home Site
The breakfast was held to congratulate 22 MMG RNs for completing the 4-month PCOA RN in-person education trainings on 16 older adult health care issues/topics. Mr. Dominick Lepore and Dr. Tara Cortes gave the opening remarks, thanking the group for their participation in this specialized curriculum that can enhance their practice in caring for seniors in the primary care setting. Dr. Amy Ehrlich and Ms. Christy Jared also spoke with the group on ways that the participants can further utilize the education to promote better patient outcomes in the community and about the opportunity for the RNs to become certified in Gerontological Nursing by the ANCC. Dr. Michael Bogaisky, a key contributor to the content of the modules, and lead educator on the project was also present to offer his support and congratulations to the learners.
This project is part of a 3-year, $2.55 million Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) grant through the newly launched Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP). HIGN was one of 44 organizations in 29 states awarded a total of $35.7 million in awards.
